Vision for the Indian Army
Congratulations on taking over as Chief of the
Indian Army, regarded as the second largest in the world. Do
you feel that size by itself embodies adequate deterrence, or
else what are other military dimensions needed to deter India’s
adversaries in any future conflict? You views, please.
COAS: Our National Security encompasses political stability,
economic growth, societal development, environmental
protection, diplomatic and military strength. Purely from the
military point of view, deterrence entails maintaining strong and
cohesive Armed Forces. The external threats facing India range
from traditional land centric threats across disputed borders to
sub-conventional threats, including its proxy war manifestations.
Besides, there are other security concerns that arise from internal
strife. To that extent I am confident that our Army is fully geared
up and will undertake all challenges with utmost commitment
and professionalism.
